5 THINGS EVERY HEALTHY HOME NEEDS IN 2020 AND BEYOND

With the way our world has changed in 2020, there are a lot of changes and reconsiderations we need to make if we want to live stronger, longer, and better, and reclaim the normal in our lives, or even make our health and lives better than pre-2020. So below, I have created my personal list of the Top 5 things you need for a healthy home and life, in 2020 and beyond.

# 1 is a HOME GYM

A home gym in 2020 an beyond is a MUST. Gyms are not fun anymore, and who knows what will happen to them in the future. Possible shut downs are a VERY real thing. So stop letting the closed gyms stand in your way, and build your own home gym today. Personally I suggest a simple squat rack, bench, barbell, a few dumbbells, and a hanging or floor standing heavy bag. And for cardio? Get what you love, but I think Airdyne bikes or spin bikes are both the most space efficient and exercise efficient pieces you can have in your home gym. But don’t forget for cardio, you can always just walk out your front door too, and a jump rope or simple pair of running shoes is all you need.

#2 is a WELL DECKED OUT KITCHEN FOR HEALTHY COOKING.

Nutrition is literally the #1 key for your wellness, weight maintenance, immune system, and really anything else related to you health, and the kitchen is ground zero when it comes to your overall health.

So, make sure your kitchen is Clean. Organized. Bright. Smells nice. Free of junk foods and stocked with healthy foods. Set up with proper cooking tools like good quality cookware, a solid blender, healthy cooking ingredients, spices, herbs, healthy oils, fresh fruits and veggies. Have healthy foods on display, try to use open shelving if possible. Use glass and steel tupperware and storage.

Also, make sure you have ample ventilation when cooking, use the fan range, and clean it up so it works well, and if you have one open a window a crack. Have a set of good knives. A food scale. A clean oven. And a clean and fresh fridge and freezer.

> Remember again, the kitchen is the FOCAL POINT of your designing your health, so give it all the respect and attention it deserves!

#3 is a MEDITATION / WIND DOWN AREA

We have rooms for cooking, sleeping, entertaining, cleaning, and whatever else, but why don’t we have a room, or at least a space for total mind, body and spirit recovery? Well you can! And you don’t need a lot of space to do it.

I call them Zen Zones, and they are inspired by my extensive travels thought India and Asia where I saw many home and even businesses with quiet zen, reflection or prayer areas. Even airports have them now. So why don’t you?

A Zen Zone is a place that allows you to get out of your day, and focus inwards. A place to breathe. A place to reflect. And place to just let it all go. The only thing you need to do is find a small, quite and private area, toss down a few floor cushions, maybe a yoga mat or two, some inspiring and relaxing decor, and get your Zen on. Trust me, this is a MUST for 2020 and beyond.

#4 HOME SAUNA OR STEAM SHOWER

This is one a lot of people don’t think about, or don’t realize is actually not unreachable or “only for the rich”, but let’s face it, going to the now spa sucks, and it will for a long time to come, and many places haven’t even opened their sauna or steam rooms. So why not then forget about them and build your own? Saunas and steams are the ultimate in self-care and relaxation, and honestly, we all deserve to have one. Personally I like IR saunas, as many can be very space efficient, set up in about an hour, and just plug into a standard home wall outlet. However steam showers are also an awesome addition to your home. So let’s ditch the overpriced spas, and create our own Spa Life at home.

Worse case do this, ask yourself, how can I turn my washroom into a mini-spa? Maybe have more mineral salt baths. Add some essential oils. Soften the lighting at night. Add some plants. Pre-steam the washroom when having a shower. But personally I think adding a sauna or steam shower is a must have in 2020. My personal favourite brand of IR sauna is RadiantHealth Saunas. When you speak to them tell them Ror Alexander sent you, to save $300 - $500 depending on the model you choose.

Finally we get to number five, and this is FUNCTIONAL & HEALTHY FOCUSED LIGHTING

Now to many people this ones a bit higher level thinking, and still relatively a new concept, but healthy and functional lighting will improve your sleep, recovery, energy and productivity. Being in our homes more often, can lead us to not really giving much thought to our day to day lives, and our home lighting always falls under the radar.

I use a number of lighting solutions for different seasons and even times of the day. I have bright, daylight spectrum lighting for the office, and day use in my home.

In the mornings, especially in the winter months, I use my S.A.D. lamp each morning with my coffee, while to help me wake up I use my Wake Up Lamp, that simulates those early morning sunrises that we miss out on for about 1/3 of the year here on the west coast.

In evenings after 7 pm, I always shut all the blinds, and use black out curtains, and for lighting I use special low blue-green spectrum bulbs that help us better wind down and prepare for bed. If watching TV or using the computer, I’ll also wear blue blocking glasses after 7pm.

So make sure to give some real thought to your lighting all year round if you want to improve your overall health and wellness. For you evening bulbs checkout www.bedtimebulb.com/ror
